August 21 saw us meeting in Stow for a convoy drive up the Fosse Way to MITCAR (Midland Italian Car Day) at Coombe Abbey near Coventry. The weather was glorious again. There were plenty of Ferraris, lots of Fiats, a few Lamborghinis and Maseratis, but they were all seriously out numbered by a good balance of modern and classic Alfas. It really was a good show and a great day was capped when Cotswold Section Secretary Matthew Willmott s 1965 Giulia Spider was voted best Alfa in show. Matthew also won the raffle so he and son Harry went home very happy!
September 11 saw us in convoy again, this time departing from Cirencester, and heading south, to South West Alfa Day at Longleat. Matthew led the way, not in the Spider this time but in his wife s 156, because for once the weather had let us down. We also had a couple of Giulia Coupes, one of them Mike Appleby s 1750 GTV, a 156 Sports Wagon, and our Chairman in his newly acquired, and very tidy, S3 Spider. We also collected a member of the South Wales Section in his Alfetta as we crossed the M4. South West Alfa Day is organised by the West Wilts Section and they very kindly gave us our own parking area. We arranged the cars in a fan shape and announced our presence with our rather tasty banner. The weather did it s best to spoil the day - the club shop made a killing selling fleeces. But with so many Alfas to leer at, as well as the other attractions Longleat has to offer it proved to be a very enjoyable day indeed.
