Cotswold Section Event at Prescott Hill Climb

On Sunday 1st May we held our first event at the British Hill Climb Championship at Prescott Hill.  We were blessed with excellent weather and although we only expected around twenty Alfas over thirty arrived including several from the South Midlands and South Wales sections.

We very quickly filled our dedicated parking area and had to pinch some space from the Midas Owners Club & the Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club, they didn't mind, only 5 of them turned up!

It still wasn't enough and some Alfas were forced to park in the field on the other side of the road, sorry about that!

Prescott Hill is an historic venue in a fantastic setting, tucked into a fold of the Cotswold escarpment with parts of the course running through woodland.  Thus the track took several hours to dry after overnight storms and initially this kept times down, but kept the racing very exciting given the slippery conditions.  Once the track dried times came down rapidly, some of the cars reaching over 100 miles an hour, unbelievable on such a tight and twisting course.

During the lunchtime interval AROC members were treated to free wine and soft drinks from section funds, and we held a vote for the most desirable Alfa.

Paul Morris's lovely Guilietta Sprint was the clear winner and Paul received a plaque from Section Chairman Mark Grimshaw.

Paul is Competition Secretary at Prescott and put an awful lot of effort into organising the day so the plaque was well deserved!..........Thanks Paul.

Runners up were John & Hazel Mills with their mustard coloured GT 1300 Junior and Richard Rees with his GTV.   They both received glass tumblers engraved with the Bugatti logo donated by Prescott Hill Climb.

The Bugatti Owners Club was founded in 1929 and since 1938 the club have owned and held meetings at Prescott Hillclimb.

After lunch the racing continued and with so many Alfa fans cheering him on,  Andy Clarke in his ex-South African 1750GTV, won his class.  Well done Andy!

Everyone agreed it had been an excellent first event and one we would like to repeat next year.
