Diary Dates and Events

2008

July

Thursday 3rd - Witney Motorshow. This evening show takes place on the Ducklington Lane playing fields just off the A40 in Witney at 6pm. Our pitch is open to all Alfas and entry for exhibitors is free (at least it usually is). Afterwards we'll probably retire to the Fox at Little Barrington.

11th, 12th & 13th - Goodwood Festival of Speed

Sunday 13th - Alfa Romeo Championship Racing at Rockingham. No official timings are available yet but Alfa qualifying usually takes place at around 10.30am with the race itself starting at about 2.30pm. Entry on the day is £12 or you can save £2 by booking in advance. The 'booking hotline' is 01536 500500.

Wednesday 16th - Regular monthly gathering. 7.30pm, Roman Court Hotel.

Wednesday 30th - Classics on the Common. Several of our members plan to attend this popular afternoon/evening event in Harpendon. It usually attracts around 1600 classic vehicles. Contact us if you'd like to join us and we'll get a convoy organised.

August

Sunday 10th - MITCAR. This year Midlands Italian Car Day is being held at Holdenby House 6 miles north of Northampton. This is usually an excellent event and the venue looks beautiful. Entry is £4 per car and entitles attendees to substantially discounted access to the gardens and falconry centre. We'll be heading up in convoy from the Chapel House roundabout, Chipping Norton (where the A361 crosses the A3400), at 9.30am.

Sunday 17th - We're returning to Shelsley Walsh after a break of two years. We will be at the famous venue to watch the British, Midland, and Leaders Championship Peter Collins Commemoration meet. We'll have our own Alfa parking area and hopefully we'll be joined by members of the Bristol and West Section and the West Midlands Section. Racing starts at 10am. Discounted tickets are available from Richard Morris at £12 per person (normally £14).

Meet us there at 10am. Or join our convoy from the car park just south of the intersection of the A38 and the A4440 on Worcester's southern ring-road at 9.20am. It's right next to the BP garage.

Wednesday 20th - Our regular monthly meet. But this month there is a change of venue. We intend to meet in the High Street in Chipping Campden. We'll try and park up together near the famous market hall. There are plenty of pubs near by to keep us occupied. If you'd like to arrive in convoy be at The Roman Court in Stow by 7.40. Otherwise we'll see you in  Chipping Campden.

Sunday 31st - AROC Live - AROC are organising an exciting new event - AROC Live. This will be an all-action day for the whole family and very much geared towards those members who have requested an event where they can drive their own cars and see others in action. Working in association with Javelin Trackdays, the full and varied programme will include circuit time with free instruction and hot laps, timed sprints, a road run, an autotest, karting and maybe during the lunch period, a pedal cycle race! Novices will be actively encouraged to participate in all the activities. Primarily AROC Live will be an event for ALL and we will help you enjoy your Alfa like never before!

Javelin’s policy is simple - to organise no nonsense driving days and afford you the opportunity to explore the on-track abilities of both you and your car in a fun, friendly, safety conscious and non-elitist environment. At a Javelin event, Supercars are not essential, just a sensible attitude and a love of driving YOUR car.

September

Sunday 14th - Auto Italia, Autumn Italian Car Day, Gaydon

Wednesday 17th - Regular monthly gathering. 7.30pm, Roman Court Hotel.

19th, 20th & 21st - Goodwood Revival Weekend

Sunday 21st - Classic Vehicle Rally, Tredegar Park, South Wales (just off J28 M4).

This is a cracking show with a huge range of cars on view. Also military and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, an auto-jumble, craft stalls, several bouncy castles and slides for the kids. All this plus a charity car auction. Strangest attraction of all in 2007 was the Yorkshire terrier racing!

When filling out the Tredegar Form where is it says 'club name in full' just put Alfa Romeo Owners Club no need to mention the Cotswold Section

October

Saturday 11th - Thatcham Classic Car Show - from 10am until 4pm. Meeting at Dunstan Green, just up the road from the Texaco garage in Thatcham. This gives us plenty of space to spread out and we hope that 2008 will once again see an increase in numbers so that we can fill even more of the field and keep the momentum going!

The big news is that we have finally agreed with a supplier to provide some facilities on the day. In the past, this has been the biggest drawback, but we are very pleased to be able to announce that this year will see toilets, a hot food stand and a sweet cart on site as well as a vintage carousel and bouncy castle for the children.

The other news is that we now have a website online. This contains basic information about the show, a gallery featuring pictures from last year’s show and more importantly, a quick and simple online booking procedure. Although entry to the show is still absolutely free, the booking facility simply allows us to build up an idea of potential numbers and make/model of cars as well as updating our contact details so that we can get in touch nearer the time and inform you of any new relevant information.
