HOT NEWS - Sunday 29th June 2008 - Cotswold Alfa Day TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW

A drive through the Glorious Cotswolds to Broughton Castle, Nr Banbury the home of Lord & Lady Saye and Sele.

Described by historian Sir Charles Oman in 1898 as, “The most beautiful castle in all England, for sheer loveliness of the combination of water, woods and picturesque buildings”.  A sentiment echoed by the noted diarist James Lees-Milne in a 1989 entry "It is still the most romantic house imaginable.”

The Castle is also famous as a venue for film makers including; The Madness of King George, Shakespeare in Love, The Scarlet Pimpernel and many more.  The Castle Website has full details including a location map.

We intend to start the day with coffee or tea from around 10.30 am at the Roman Court Hotel in Stow on the Wold, where we will provide you with a route plan for a scenic drive through the Cotswolds to take at your leisure, with a simple observational quiz, arriving at Broughton Castle in time to picnic in the spacious grounds.  The Castle opens at 2pm.

There are limited catering facilities (teas, cakes etc) at the Castle but most of us will be bringing a picnic.

Anyone not wishing to join us for the drive can arrive at the Castle from about 12pm but the tearoom and the Castle are not open until 2pm. We are negotiating to get the tearoom open for 1pm but there will be plenty of time for you to picnic in the grounds.

The AROC Giulia 105 Register is supporting this event and we hope to get a good selection of 105’s along again.  In addition we have invited the Vintage Register, 916 Register, 2600 Register and there will be a display of the more unusual Alfas in the courtyard of the Castle.  If any of the other Registrars are reading this and feel like joining in please contact one of the Cotswold section committee, see below.

Entry will be by ticket bought in advance, they are available from Matthew Willmott or at section meetings and events.

The cost for the day which will include the route plan, tea or coffee at the Roman Court Hotel and entry to the Castle will be £8 per person, children between 5-14 will be £ 3 & under 5’s free.

There will be prizes for the route quiz, a "ladies choice" for their favourite Alfa on the day, a raffle and a childrens drawing competition (weather permitting).

Please put an entry in your diary for Cotswold Alfa Day and keep a look out for updates, either on our website, the AROC Forum or in the AROC Newsletter.

Here's to another enjoyable day out in the glorious Cotswolds !
