News And Events

We all had an excellent Bangers and Mash evening again at The Good Intent - a very good turnout and excellent food as usual.  Thanks to Keith for organising this perennial favourite.

A few weeks later and a small (but select!) group of us made it to the Classic Car Summer Picnic at Amberley Museum - it was good to see Sue Massey and Dave Aiken, as well as Sue Smith, Bill and Anne and Martin and Kerry, who came and joined the Exhibitors (Gordon with his Giulia, Derek with his Spider, David and Jennifer with their GTV and Lauren with her mean green Nova) for the picnic.

It was a leafy spot and Keith still managed to get us all into the following photo:

National Alfa Day at Newby Hall, Yorkshire: David and Jennifer Hills attended and David has sent in a report, for which many thanks:

National  Alfa  Day  at  Newby  Hall  gave  us  an  opportunity  to  spend  a  few  days  in  Yorkshire,  where  we  could  visit  our  friends  and  family  in  the  area. On  our  last  visit  to  Yorkshire  we  had  stayed  at  the  Chequers  Inn  at  Bishop  Thornton,  and  a  glance  at  the  map  showed  Newby  Hall  only  about  8  miles  from  there,  so  it  made  a  perfect  base.

Sunday  dawned  warm  and  sunny,  and  our  journey  to  Newby  Hall  was  easy  and  uneventful. On  arrival  we  drove  straight in,  and  soon  found  ourselves  parked  amongst  hundreds  of  Alfas  in  a  very  pleasant  parkland  setting.  Having  queued  for  well  over  an  hour  at  Shuttleworth,  this  efficiency  was  greatly  appreciated.  Newby  Hall  proved  to  be  a  perfect  place  for such  an  event,  with  an  historic  house,  some  great  gardens,  a  river  and  a  children’s  play  area – enough  to  keep  everyone  happy.  We  were  content  to  just  wander  amongst  the  Alfas  and  to  meet  up  with  numerous  friends  made  over  our  20  years  with  the  Club.  Although  the  trade  stalls  were  disappointing  to  many  members,  the  catering  facilities  were  good,  and  a  small  jazz  band  played  some  jolly  music.  The  weather  stayed  warm  and  sunny  throughout,  and  we  had  a  most  enjoyable  day.A  good  event  and  a  really  good  venue!
Our  thanks  to  all  those  involved  in  the  organization
Club nights: We have had surprisingly good turn-outs for the last two or three club nights (the summer holiday season can sometimes affect numbers), with a good few new members, to whom we extend a warm welcome.

Future events for your diaries:

Thursday October 1st - We have once again had the privilege of an invitation from Jim Stokes to visit his workshops in Waterlooville. Courtesy, of course, dictates that we must let him know names and numbers, so if you'd like to attend, please contact Keith Goffe by e-mail   keith.goffe@ntlworld.com , or phone him on 01730 264495.

Sunday October 11th - lunch at Il Palio, Brockenhurst - for those of you who have not been to this regular event before: Il Palio is a very nice, family-run, Italian restaurant located in a conversion of one of the early railway buildings at the station at Brockenhurst in the New Forest.  They always make us very welcome and the food has always been very good indeed, and extends well beyond the "pizza and pasta" options.

I need to confirm how many people will be coming in early October, so if you'd like to come along please tell me at Club Night next Thursday (24th September) OR complete and return the following form with your deposit, no later than Monday 5th October please.

Bowling in November:  I'll be chatting to you at Club Night about moving this idea on a bit - a Sunday in November seems to be favourite for a visit to the Ten Pin Bowling Alley in Chichester.  I will sound you out about a preferred date.

Sunday 13th December - Christmas Lunch at The White Horse (The Pub with No Name) at Prior's Dean:  This is now booked, so this is simply to let you have the date for your diaries.  Booking form and menu will follow - but not for a while!  Not at least until the clocks have changed!
