NEWSLETTER, NOVEMBER 2009

Hello everyone,  another short newsletter - and my last (see below)!

Firstly, the usual reminder about communications -   You can now reach the website via  http://www.aroc-uk.com/goodwood/   and you can contact me on goodwood@aroc-uk.com, or 023 80454378, or mobile 07769 738052 (text is best!).

Time for some new faces please:

Firstly - Section Secretary:   Keith and I have been joint Section Secretaries for two years now, and we have already given a couple of "verbal warnings" that we would like to hand over the reins in 2010.

So, we are looking for a new Section Secretary - the three primary jobs are

(1) welcoming new members and maintaining membership records

(2) writing and distributing the section Newsletter and (3) liaising with the national club.

To give you a bit of historical background, when Tony Powell gave up as Section Secretary at the end of 2007 to move to the Ukraine, Keith and I agreed to take it on and to split up the work. I do (1) and (2), Keith does (3) - and lots of welcoming, of course!

I suppose ideally, one person should take on the whole role, but in the event that no-one wants to take on the whole thing Keith has nobly offered to carry on acting as the liaison with the national club but only if someone else will now please pick up jobs (1) and (2).

Secondly- Social Secretary:  This is a job I have done for a good few years, and now wish to hand it over to someone else.  It just requires a bit of time and diligence - it is not down to the Social Secretary to plan, devise, think up, a complete social programme - that's the job of the committee and indeed any keen member who wants to organise an event (such as Keith with the Bangers and Mash and Jim Stokes' evening, and Derek with the skid-pan last year).  What the Social Secretary does is the admin - liaise with the venues, collect money, confirm bookings, and generally tie things together.  I've asked for help and received it on a number of occasions - but I really do want to give it up now!

The Annual General Meeting is held at the Club Night in January (Jan 28th)so that's when the Section needs to appoint these new Officers.  If you'd like to be considered, or to submit a nomination, please e-mail me (goodwood@aroc-uk.com)  or Keith (keith.goffe@ntlworld.com).

News And Events:

A very good time was had by all at the Jim Stokes' night, and at Il Palio where we had a very sociable lunch in October.  Here are some pictures - cars this time, not people! - which I have been sent by Keith:

By the time you get this Newsletter, 12 trusty-and-true members will be looking forward to strutting their stuff at the Lakeside Superbowl in Chichester - I am apprehensive that there is a secret champion amongst them! Think of us on Sunday next,  in our funny shoes,  trying to avoid the neighbours' lanes!

Next Club Night - Thursday 26th November.

Future events for your diaries:

Just one last event on my watch -  Sunday 13th December - Christmas Lunch at The White Horse (The Pub with No Name) at Prior's Dean

We had such a good turnout at Club Night in October that most of the (max 35) places are filled.  Here is a list of those who have said that they definitely want to come:

Derek and Pauline Preston, David and Jennifer Hills, Sue and Gordon Stephenson, Dave and Cynthia Hill, Jamie and Bea Foster, Ron Francis, Martin and Marg Hudson, David Goffe, Ashley Jordan, Keith Goffe, Ava Stuart, Ian Vosper, Brian and Jean Irwin, Bill Smith and Anne Hards, Janet Fairchild, Charles and Sandra Lumby, Laurence and Josie Hickman, Julie and Peter Lloyd and  Lauren Proctor -  31

So, that leaves just  4  places.  Of course, it may be that no-one else wants to come but in case more than four people ask for these 4 places, I think it would maybe be a little unfair to just say "first past the post", i.e. the first e-mail(s) I receive gets them.

If it turns out that I have lots of requests, let's make it a lottery!  If you want any of these remaining  4  seats at the Christmas Lunch, please e-mail me no later than lunchtime on Nov 26th, and if there are more than four of you, I will print out the names, and we'll draw them out of the hat at Club Night..

So now for the good stuff - here is the delicious menu, and the booking form for your choices and payment:
