MITCARMITCAR 2008 - Midlands Italian Car Day
Sunday 10 August, Holdenby House, Northants.

MITCAR 2007
MITCAR 2007, Calke Abbey,
Derbyshire
(by John Griffiths)

The eighth Midlands Italian Car Day is being held in the south of the region for the first time. Holdenby House is north of Northampton, just a few miles from Junction 18 of the M1.

We have exclusive use of a large, gated site, close to the facilities and we will open at 10.30 am. Stewards will be on hand to park the cars by marque. The entrance fee will be a modest £5 per Italian Car and this will entitle everyone to a substantially discounted entrance to the gardens and falconry centre of £2 per person with children free (normally entrance is £5 !!) . Three falconry displays will be scheduled during the day.

As always visitors in any Italian car will be welcome and we can expect both classics and modern. There were 200 at Calke Abbey last year and we look forward to beating this total. There will again be a competition for ‘Car of the Day’ (The Camshaft Trophy and Cup), and popular vote cups this year in four categories: Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Exotic (Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini etc.). Also the Brava/Bravo Organisation (BOO) will be again awarding a cup. In addition, this year the Alfasud Register is designating MITCAR as its annual gathering and so a special cup will be awarded in this category. The competitive element is always light-hearted at MITCAR, and sometimes the unusual and off-beat is rewarded, which might not be the case in a conventional Concours. It all adds to the fun! Prize giving will be at 3pm and, as has become the convention, all those who filled in voting papers will be entered in a prize draw.

We expect dealership displays for Alfa and Fiat , including a tuning feature for the new 500.

There is a shop on site but since the cafeteria is undergoing reconstruction, a mobile facility is being arranged for the day. Many will want to picnic and this year sensible barbecues will be OK. Dogs allowed if on leash.
