Blag-a-Ride at Black & White Garage

Monday 5th June 2006

Our usual Monday meeting was replaced in June by this great event organised by Paul Owen.  The idea is a simple one, you can request a ride in any members car you like for the price of £1 which goes to section funds.  A similar event was held last year, but this year Paul went one better and arranged for the event to be held at local Alfa specialists Black & White Garage of Cold Ash near Newbury - thanks to James Wheeler for agreeing to host us for the evening.  A number of members met at the Old Devil Inn and drove over together in convoy

We were lucky to have many different types of car present; several bertone coupes, many modern GTV's, Robbie Webb brought along his lovely 1900 CSS, a handful of classic Spiders, a 156 and including the 2 belonging to Black and White Garage no less than 3 ES30 SZ's.

A bottle of wine was up for grabs to the member who took the most people out for rides.  Bill Stavely with his immaculate 1600 GT Junior took the honours here and was to be seen whizzing members around all night!  As you can see below on one occasion Bill was even 3 up in the Bertie.

In addition to the members cars we also had Black and White's stock to drool over.  I particularly liked a nearly new GT JTD finished in black with red leather interior and also a metallic red Fiat Panda on the front of the forecourt caught my eye.  Other members were more taken by the Maserati 3200 and 4200 sitting in the showrooms....

This was a great evening and we would also like to thank members from the Cotswolds section for coming along, but prize for longest travelled goes to Dave Armstrong who came all the way from Manchester!   This is definitely something we will be repeating as everyone had a really enjoyable evening, so thanks again to Paul Owen and James Wheeler (see last picture above right) for organising and hosting.  Thanks again to Paul and also Mark Grimshaw for some of the photo's used in this report.
