Visit to The Goodwood Breakfast Club

Sunday April 1st 2007

Getting out of bed at 5:45 on a Sunday morning, might not be for everybody but this is what a small group of us did in order to visit Goodwood motor circuit's Breakfast Club.  This occurs on the first Sunday of every month and each one is themed - this first one of the year being Forza Italia.  We met up with a group of friends just outside Winchester at 7:15 and headed down to the Goodwood estate via some stunning driving roads in a convoy consisting of James Wheeler's race prepared 1600 GT Junior, Peter Mullineux's 155 Twinspark, Durran and Gordon Heslop's Maserati 430, Howard and Tonia Twine's 145 Cloverleaf, Paul Owen's 2000 GTV and my SZ.

The roads were deserted and the drive alone was worth getting up so early for.  We arrived at Goodwood before 8:30, but we weren't the first to arrive and before long Italian cars and bikes were pouring in.

There were plenty of Alfa's to see, including the new Spider which I had not seen before.

In addition to the Alfa's there was lots of other machinery to look at.  Some exotic and some not so exotic but (for me at least) equally as interesting.  Here's the exotic stuff:

And here's some of the less exotic, but still fascinating, cars

It really was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning and I highly recommend it.  It was also good to meet up with Bill Smith again from the Sussex section and thanks to Simon Novis for helping Paul out.

This one is definitely on the to-do list for next year!
