The Fox Run

To The National Memorial Arboretum - 30 May 2021

Photos by John G and Alex Black

Well after weeks of rubbish weather we had a glorious Sunday for our run – blue skies and 20 degrees C!  Nearly 50 of us joined this one, our first weekend gathering since October.  We started at the George & Dragon in Thringstone where Manager Josh and team had prepared breakfast baps for us.  We could have good chat around the cars and sit in the adjacent beer garden to enjoy the sun too.

This year’s route was devised by James Fernley who sadly couldn’t join us due to his work.  I’d transposed it into a map hand out with some annotations, but the idea was this time to drive in convoy, and Alex and Katie Pope kindly volunteered to lead the way in their lovely white Giulia Veloce.

We had a super variety of cars along – including no less than 3 Stelvio Quadrifoglios!  The white one belonging to Richard and Lisa Jenkinson, then two metallic black ones, one belonging to T, one to Geoff and Pam Cavers – they all sounded glorious!   Great to see Steve and Nadine Ball down from Derbyshire in their SZ.  Sadly it picked up a flat so they couldn’t join the run itself. Nihal and her some Aman were able to join us in person for the first time in her recently acquired Giulia Veloce Ti. Other first timers were Mal and Helena Bassett in their beautiful red 939 Spider, and Giles and Sharon Broomhall in their simply gorgeous green 1300 GT Junior. They just made it as the cars set off but caught up!
The convoy set off at a relaxed pace at just after 10:30, taking a meandering route past Belton and Castle Donington, up to Shardlow, across to Hilton then down to Kings Bromley before cruising in to the Arboretum and our special reserved parking area.  We then had very relaxing afternoon chatting to friends and wandering in the extensive gardens around the many memorials.  A really great relaxing late spring day.

(Thanks to Alex Black and Bethan for also taking photos on the day, I will add them here later.)

Oh for more days like these this year, we are owed!

Thanks to all who could make it along – a super day out.
