Fun Concours Night
What a glorious evening! The dry spell continued and after a bit of a cloudy day the sun finally came out as 40 Alfas gathered at The Rothley Court Hotel, a wonderful backdrop to our 18th Fun Concours event. Sadly a traffic jam on the M1 southbound meant 4 Alfas got stuck there and missed it (released at 11pm!) – and a good many of our regulars were away taking advantage of the good weather, or we could have been on for a record attendance – as it was we had around 70 people along to enjoy it.
After lining up in the big open area, at around 7.45 the voting began, with all Alfas entered (we had 5 6 or non Alfas this year but they are not in the competition), and everyone getting to vote!
Gosh it was difficult for people to choose winners with so many fabulous cars present. There will be a full listing in our July 2021 newsletter, but you’ll get a good idea from the photos here.
We had 4 or 5 members also over but not in Alfas, and together there were around 70 of us at this delightful venue. The ‘Covid’ bar arrangement worked very well there too.
So from 7.45 the voting sheets were distributed, Ian Jephcott and I totted the scores up – a laborious task! The voting was as ever well spread, lost for example nominated for Shiniest Paintwork and Cleanest Wheels – but there were some clear winners in some categories, most notably the overall ‘Car of the Night’ award.
Here are the Prize Categories and winners:
Shiniest Paintwork: 1st, Viv Stephens (4C LE)
Grubbiest Exhaust: Graham Whiteside (Giulia QF) (It’s all that carbon!)
Cleanest Wheels & Tyres: Craig Percy (939 Spider)
Dirtiest Scudetto: Bethan McLeavy (MiTo)
Pristine Interior: Giles Broomhall (Giulietta Spider)
Most Bugs on Windscreen: Brian Smith (4C Spider)
Cleanest Engine Bay: Roger Smith (916 Spider 3.2 V6)
Outstanding Effort Award: Graham Paris (145 Cloverleaf)
Car of the Night – Runner Up: Viv Stephens, (4C LE)
CAR OF THE NIGHT – Winning the Mirror Shine Trophy: Simon Yates (Giulietta Spider)
I should again say that the general standard of prep on these cars was sensational. I do hope lots enter the AROC Concours and Show and Shine Competitions in the future. Tremendous stuff, and so hard to choose winners.
Another super evening, thanks to everyone who made it! John
