MITCAR 2021 - Midlands Italian Car Day

British Motor Museum, Gaydon, 21 August 2021

Photos by John G

The British Motor Museum was one of Bryan Alexander’s favourite event venues, he being the original brains behind the regional event that started in 2001.  Bryan passed away in 2019, but this first event since that sad time was certainly full of the spirit he envisaged – lots of happy people with great Italian cars coming together.

The show had a great selection varied vehicles from Fiat Topolino to Ferrari Portofino, and despite being very much organised by AROC East Midlands, saw great support from Alfa members across the country and many Italian car clubs of other makes.  The volume of Fiats was particularly impressive, and 96 Abarths was we’re told their record event gathering for clubs for some time.

For the awards we had the following winners:

Best Italian Exotic Car:  Maserati GanCabrio MC Stradale -  T Lumm

Italian Rarity:  Fiat Marea 20v – James Nicholson

MITCAR Special Award:  Innocenti Mini Cooper ‘Export model’ -  Elliot Price

Organisers’ Choice:  Alfa Romeo ARNA 1.2SL – Ian Jephcott

Car of the Day, by Public Vote, winning the Bryan Alexander Camshaft Trophy:

Giulietta Sprint – David Roberts

The ‘BMM’ is highly recommended for a visit whenever you are in the area – and though MITCAR is likely to move as per old tradition it is one I am sure AROC and other Italian Clubs will return to again.

Thanks to all of the East Midlands Helpers, the Abarth Club helpers, the BMM team and ALL of the show-goers (over 1,000 tickets sold and 400 cars in attendance) for making it such a super day, despite that weather forecast!
