April Meeting Night - with Matt Richardson ‘Furious Driving’

ZOOM meeting  8 April 2021

Screen grabs by Jason Hood

Special guest speaker Matt Richardson of ‘Furious Driving’ YouTube channel fame joined us for the April meeting night. He’s a proper Alfista!

Matt was invited to join us by James Fernley, Section team member and AROC 145/146 Registrar, who’d been in general conversation with him over the 145 Cloverleaf presently in his hands and subject to various YouTube videos in its restoration.  He’d sent over a number of photos of past Alfas and he started by explaining how he got into it…

It was started by him seeing a read Alfa 33 Cloverleaf, which in its day was quite a head turner with its bold lines, certainly compared with the by then rather tired appearance of the Mk3 Escort Matt owned! Being powered by a development of the Boxer engine that a family member had had in an Alfasud in the 1970’s effectively sealed the deal, and in the end he tracked down a black 33 1.7 Cloverleaf, a car he really enjoyed.

A succession of Alfas followed including 156, 159 and 147, plus his wife’s Punto Cabrio and Barchetta.

Matt shared his broader car obsession of course, and exactly how the Youtube thing came into being, now growing to a following  of over 45,000 subscribers, then we learned a lot about what goes into creating and delivering the content.

There will be a  lot more in the May edition of our Alfisti newsletter.  Suffice to say Matt made it a very interesting evening that all of our members present enjoyed, we owe him a big thank you.  We also hope to see Matt at some of the big Club events this year - hopefully with his Drone too!

John
