Wessex Section

We held a really enjoyable Wessex BBQ and skittles evening on August 3rd.  Many thanks again to Joanne and Ian Brookfield for the tasty and plentiful food and congratulations to Peter Godwin for his triumph in the skittles narrowing beating Justyna Nicholas.  Thank you to all who attended with their cars forming a super example of the range of Alfa Romeo (and Fiat !) across the last 60 years or so.

On Sunday, July 31st we held a “Giro di Purbeck” driving day, organised by Stephen and Ruth Paddock.  After an earlier postponement due to weather, the giro duly went ahead.  Thank you to all those who participated for their perseverance despite the challenges of Camp Bestival, Swanage Carnival, and the low cloud white-outs. Our inaugural Giro, this time of the Purbeck kind, with 7 cars, 12 Wessexers and 3 dogs !

Some pictures for added flavour...

Many thanks to Stephen and Ruth for planning and organising the day

The Sherborne Classics and Supercars Show returned on July 17th for the first time since 2019.  This has been a popular fixture on the Wessex calendar for many years and, as in recent years, we arranged a joint AROC stand for the Wessex, Somerset and West Wilts Sections.  A total of 23 cars were displayed on the stand with a huge variety covering 18 different models.

Our July meeting was our annual Show and Shine fun concours competition.  The event was again held at the Langton Arms at Tarrant Monkton, a beautiful old Dorset thatched pub in an idyllic village setting.  The pub has the benefit of a large field where we can display our cars.   We were fortunate to enjoy another warm, sunny and dry summer evening as people enjoyed drinks, dinner, chatting and admiring the cars !

This year’s event was sponsored by Peter Smart Classic Alfas to whom we offer a big thank you.

With an extended period between our early May meeting and our June “Giro di Purbeck”, we held an additional meeting at short notice on May 31st.  A number of us met up at Cadman's Pool in the New Forest to enjoy the spring evening.  A total of eight Alfas (plus something from Bavaria …sorry !), together with eleven people and two dogs (!) showed up.  After a cool and showery day, the weather turned much better in the evening and we enjoyed a sunny evening, sitting, chatting and admiring the Alfas.
