Report: Breakfast at The Oil Can Cafe

Yorkshire Section members enjoy a good breakfast so this return visit to The Oil Can Cafe at The Carding Shed in Holmfirth turned out to be one of our better ideas. Since our last visit in March, a lot has changed; not least being the location of the Cafe that's gone to a completely new spot at Washpitt Mills; right in the heart of The Last of the Summer Wine country. Indeed, a totourist bus bearing the name of the BBC's comedy show was seen early doors driving right past the Carding Shed's new premises.

Joining our Section regulars were Ian Mitchell and his wife who drove across from Weatherby in their new Giulia to see us. It was a pleasure to welcome visitors from our neighbouring Sections too with Neil and Carolyn Bramham joining us from AROC North West while Martin Wilson from the Lincolnshire Section also came along in his Spider.

As we mentioned, The Oil Can Cafe has recently moved and this was our first time at the new venue. Janet, Front of House Manager is still there though and she showed us to our group of tables at the far end of the Cafe, which wereaptly below a garage sign on the wall bearing the name Alfa Romeo; a nice touch we thought. Breakfasts devoured, we then had a casual and informal walk around the place noticing as we did so a rather nice looking Lancia Coupe obviously awaiting the attentions of the onsite restoration business.

If you've not been to The Carding Shed before, you'll be sure to finfd it a quiky and fascinating place to visit so give it a try. Our visit proved to be an extremely pleasant and relaxed way to spend a few hours on a Sunday morning with the bonus of driving our Alfa Romeos along some pretty scenic and rustic Yorkshire roads too (speed cameras apart!)
