Report: NAD at Weston Park

This year's National Alfa Day took place at Weston Park, Weston-under-Lizard near Shifnal in Staffordshire. A group of us ifrom the Yorkshire Section took the opportunity to stay overnight at The Ramada Hotel in Telford on the Saturday before the event. Once settled in, we enjoyed a great late afternoon and night in each other's company with the evening meal in the Hotel's dining room being a particular highlight. The food was spot-on and the wine was surprisingly good we found.

On Sunday morning following a hearty breakfast to set us up for the day ahead, we unfortunately found that that was to be the end of our fun at the Hotel to be replaced by fun and games of the unwanted sort as due to checking-out glitches, which were allegedly caused by internal and third party servers and computer terminals not communicating with each other, we were very late departing from Telford resulting in our mid-morning appearance at Weston Park. The hold-up rather negated our chances of getting to National Alfa Day early on so to say we were disappointed is something of an understatement. Booking dot com? Booking dot useless in our opinion!

Once we eventually made it onsite, such were the convivial surroundings, as soon as we jumped out of our cars we immediately got chatting and made a few new buddies with some Giulietta owners. We spoke to scores of Alfisti and caught sight of many more familiar faces but, due to our imposed and unintentional tardy arrival, to be honest we didn't have quite enough time to come and talk. So, we'd like to say sorry and to request forgiveness from those that we didn’t get the chance to meet and have a natter with on the day.

Fortunately for us and the organisers, the sun was out and stayed out meaning that all memories of our previous visit to Weston Park when it absolutely siled it down were banished. There was a good selection of cars on display. The BTCC Giulietta of Rob Austin was also on display and our own Gwenneth Merton actually got into it and took to the wheel. Getting out of the thing proved to be a different proposition though so perhaps it was as well that there are no pictures of her struggles to release herself from the confined cabin. The Trade stands and the Italian market were welcome additions.

We did manage to meet and have lunch under the welcome shade of the park's large trees with a number of old friends from AROC Sections from up and down the country and we were impressed by the entrants' cars to both the Show and Shine and Concours competition, both categories I'm glad to say featured Alfasuds as the winners, one of which took the overall Best in Show award.

All in all, we enjoyed the day and the weekend together as a whole. We only wish we hadn't have had the checking-out issues as a spoiler otherwise we may have enjoyed ourselves a bit more. It was a good show never-the-less.
