Report: Our Christmas Get-Together 2018
Always popular, our annual Christmas Get-Together this year was actually over-subscibed which unfortunately meant the several local members were left disappointed.
After a stop for lunch along the way at The Engine Shed cafe at Steam and Moorlands Garden Centre in Pickering, we joined the rest of the crew at The White Horse Farm Inn at Rosedale Abbey. Unlike last year's event, when we were greeted with deep snow, the weather was kind to us and we had a spectacular view from our room's window. Saturday's programme continued with much conviviality and socialising with our friends, some of whom we hadn't seen in quite some time, we all sat down to enjoy our three-course Christmas Meal in the evening.
After a decent full breakfast on Sunday morning, we were joined by more of our local members who hadn't been lucky enough to join us the previous day. Sunday is the day for our drive through the North Yorkshire Moors via Goathland and a picture opportunity at the top of Blue Bank. From there we dropped down the hill on our way to Robin Hood's Bay to take in the village's Victorian weekend. Some of us called in at The Victoria Inn for a coffee and some excellent home-made cake, where we apparently also kept the locals entertained with some of our motoring and domestic tales! That was fun. Othersin our group dropped down the steep hill to the Bay itself to enjoy the proceedings there. Once a year at the beginning of September, the villagers dress up in some authentic Victorian attire and put on traditional crafts for visitors.
Leaving Robin Hood's Bay behind, we all made our way to Whitby to enjoy some really fresh and tasty fish and chips (our Section's staple!) with some pf our group going to eat at The world-famous Magpie Cafe while others ate at the award-winning Trenchers Fish Resaurant, which was a great end to a great weekend. We'll do it all again next year.
