Report: Our East Coast Run
It's got to be said, put a spirited drive and a plate of award-winning fish and chips in front of any of our Section members and you have all the ingredients we need to have a successful event!
Our starting point for our run was the north side viewing area of the engineering marvel that is The Humber Bridge, where we nearly got off to the worst possible start due to there being a farmers' market being held there on the same day! We had checked the date with the local Tourist Information Office previously but obviously there was a heck of a lot of traffic about that morning. Despite this minor setback we all managed to set off safely together in a sort of mini-convoy to our destination in Hornsea on the east coast.
It was a beautiful bright and sunny morning and we all enjoyed the drive passing through the market town of Beverley, through Tickton and then on to the village of Catwick via a quick blast along the dual carriageway for a coffee break at the impressive cafe at Hornsea Garden Centre at Sigglesthorne.
Suitably refreshed, we made our way to Hornsea arriving at the world-famous (in Yorkshire at any rate!) Sullivan's Fish and Chip Emporium not far from the resort's seafront. We can all concede that fish and chips are becoming the staple diet of our Section and any number of our events tend to incorporate this traditional favourite so we were not at all disappointed with the fayre offered by Sullivan's. They serve some of the best fish and chips that you're ever likely to come across. After our meals we enjoyed a bracing walk along Hornsea's timber-decked seafront walkway to burn off a few of the calories gained at Sullivan's and the excellent fish and chips.
Oh, did I not mention? Our Section quite likes fish and chips....
